Long story short, these are great boots that (if you're willing to spend hours fiddling with them) can give a custom fit and stay on, even in mud. I don't care if I can never ride him, as long as he's not in pain, nor causing pain for my poor farrier, who is a saint. He's sound!!! And staying sound! Thank God. In the meantime, I pulled the gaiters off and moved the cables back to tighten them up and spread the load around the sides of his hooves. I'll re-sew Velcro farther back and see if that helps. He wears a 5, which is only a problem because the gaiters have no chance of fitting (they're draft sized), and I'm pretty sure I can't swap them out with smaller ones because they conform the the bottom of the boot. I put him on a stupidly large dose of farriers formula double strength (great product, by the way) and bought these boots for his front feet. Went through the usual suspects, xrayed again, and the long and short of it is that his feet 'just kinda suck'. I let him be a horse for a year, and about 9months in, he started having trouble being even just pasture sound. Farrier and vet pronounced him recoverable, got him sound, put glue-ons on him, and that was that. I acquired a rescued OTTB with soundness issues.not the usual bowed tendon(s), but minor laminitis. Not what I'd call 'Epic', but close The struggle is real.
